what other consoles do you have?
U.N Squadron for the SNES is my favourite Shmup of all time.
You can't really call youself a fan of Shmups without owning a Saturn and Dreamcast. The Saturn, by itself, has a library of amazing games. The games you mentioned don't even compare to what you will find on the Saturn. Do yourself a favor and find a cheap Saturn and Dreamcast on E-bay or Craigslist and buy them. You will also need a 4 in 1 memory card for your Saturn. This will not only act as a 4mb ram cart, but allows you to play imports, which is where most of the greatness resides. Next you should look at sites like racketboy.com for inspiration. Im sure Panzer_Zwei will fill in all the gaps with my post, but none the less, this should give you a good starting point. Einhander on the PS1 is also a great game. I was in your shoes about a year ago and since then I have spent several hundred dollars on games and a dedicated Radiant Silvergun cabinet to go along with my copy of the Saturn original. I'm also a big fan of the Cotton series and Twinkle Star Sprites too. Anyway, good luck and I hope you have plenty of patience because some of the games you are about to play are so tedious it drives me crazy just thinking about them.
Castle Shikigami 3 is on the Wii...Most SHMUPS are better on the Sega consoles... most of those you listed are ports.
Strikers 1945 (PS),it only has like 6 or 7 levels,but is good.
you should definitely check outEINHANDER for psone.
Consoles I own:X360PS3WiiSNESNDSNeo Geo Pocket ColorPSPWill def. look into a Sega Saturn as I have heard about lots of shmups (mostly import). Thanks!
Bangai-O Spirits for the DS is really good.
due to the fact that you own a x360 you should give geometry wars and assault heroes a try.
i own most of those games you listed and a few more, anyway the best site to ask these questions is ww.shmups.com - they even have a detailed list covering most/all shmups for each console making it easy to see what titles you may have overlooked.

First question that arose to me after reading your post was you canhave so many gradius and R-type delta games and not have the best from both series?

Anyway try to get your hands on Gradius V, its my personal fafourite shmup and generally considered to be the best of the series all together by critics
Best of the R-type series is supposed to be R-type delta, (seeing as i only own delta and the horribly bland final i have to say delta is tons better but i cant compare it to the rest of the series.)

PS1 also had einhander
PS2 Gradius
PS2 Dodonpachi (ntsc)
PS1 R-type delta
PS1 Einhander
xbox Psyvariar2

I only named the good ones, if id name up all the crappy ones ive been through the list would stretch 2 pages... kinda sad there are so many bad shmups we have to filter through
Wii: Castle of Shikigami III, Blast Works, Geometry Wars Galaxies

DS: Bangai-O Spirits, Contra IV, Metal Slug 7 (import; or wait for the US release)

NGPC: Metal Slug 1st Mission and Metal Slug 2nd Mission
SNES: Space MegaforcePS1: Raystorm, Raycrisis, Thunder Force V, Xevious 3D/GNES: ZanacAlso besides the Saturn, The turbografx (PC Engine in Japan) has a great library of shumps
Hey Hot114, good to see you continue to edify the ignorant to the wickedness that is shmuping. Hot114 knows what he's talking about....I grabbed Gradius V due to his suggestion...and indeed it is GREAT. Hard as hell, hectic and beautiful. Regardless, your collection is pretty solid as is. Do Don Pachi is worthy. Has Dangun Feveron been released on any of those systems? It's a wacky disco-themed shooter that is quite enjoyable. Guwange is amazing.....
I went to this place called Frank %26 Sons about 30 minutes away that is pretty much a video game (along with other nerd-related items) mecca. I got the following and have played them all last night.1) Graduis V: PS2: only paid 5 dollars. Beat it but it was really a challenge.FYI: Raystorm is on the Taito Legend 2
Super Nova- SNESI don't know if it's considered good because I'm not a huge shmup fan, but I used to have it and liked it pretty much.
Anyway try to get your hands on Gradius V, its my personal fafourite shmup and generally considered to be the best of the series all together by critics
Actually Gradius V is considered to be one of the worst entries in the series as Treasure clearly put graphics over substance. The 4 option cap for two players is the most blatant proof of this, and it pretty much ruined the two player mode. Lack of many details like no Moai heads or Lord British, plus the game feeling more like Salamander 2.5 than a Gradius game made Gradius V a dissapointment after Fukkatsu. The highest regarded Gradius game by critics of the series is actually Gradius Gaiden.
Blazing lazer (Gunheed) is one of my favorite (Shoot Them Ups) of all time, Cybercore is a very hard (Shoot them up) However both are for NEC's PC Engine/TG-16The NES also had Hard (Shmups) GUN NAC and SkyShark and tons of others.
