What you see there is a battery pack for the Atari Lynx. It will power the little battery-sucker for a full 20 hours on 6 D batteries. I want to know if it's compatible with my SEGA Game Gear or my SEGA Nomad. If it is, my life would be complete. D batteries are cheaper than AA batteries where I buy them, and 20 hours is a long while. Is this compatible?
Careful, those connectors have a million different diameters, I never found one that would fit in a device it wasn't designed for.Is this compatible?
yeah i wouldnt try it. probably different size plug, voltage, amperage, or something. It's really best to use power plugs/adapters that are actually designed for your specific use. i have a lynx and i wish my power plug even worked, but no, i can only use the 6 AA batteries. so yeah a few hours and its dead.
The voltage is the same and the amps are compatible. The problem turned out to be that the tips of the plugs are not the same size. I've decided to buy the battery pack and modify it myself to fit the Game Gear and Nomad.
pry not in old school
You also need to make note of what is positive and negative. Some plugs have the positive in the center with ground on the outside, and others are opposite. There should be a diagram on both the game gear and the plug.... that kinda looks like a C with a dot in the middle and then + and - lines going to each showing you what is positive and negative. If they are reversed from each other, Do not plug them together. I imagine something will fry if you do.I remember on my Game Gear (about 15 years ago...), I used a Sony CD player plugin to power it. But I made sure that all the markings and voltages were the same.... It ended up working fine. The only thing bad that happened was that it stretched out the plug a bit, and made it to were it would easily unplug from my Cd player.

Thanks for your concern, but I know what I'm doing. I'm rather adept with electronics and have done this sort of thing before.

It's a handheld Genesis with TV out. It would be a terrible loss. The Nomad is an outstanding system, even if it does munch batteries Pac-Man styIe.

Because I wanted to see if it would work without my having to do any modifications, of course. Just because I can do something doesn't mean I want to.
i had a ps slim and i had a genisis connector and it ran but it fried the ps1

Just a curiosity: how long do the battery last? Is it compatible with rechargeable batteries?

Did you even read the first post? The battery life is horrible, which is why I'm modifying a Lynx battery pack to get 20 hours out of it.
You'll get between 3 and 5 hours on good alkalines, or possibly 6 on good rechargeable NiMH or Li-ion.
