Fixing loose analog stick on N64?

Today, I decided to pick up one of my favourite games ever, Donkey Kong 64. But i had an incredible amount of trouble playing since the joy stick is very loose and can't stay in the center. How do i fix it?Fixing loose analog stick on N64?
hey just got that as well!!!

but yea...u can't really fix a loose analog stick on any controller...N64 especially

sorry...they're pretty cheap on ebay or amazonFixing loose analog stick on N64?
Unfortunately this is a design flaw in the N64 controller and to my knowledge there's no way to fix it. Supposedly the controllers that were manufactured later on in the N64's lifespan don't have this problem, or at least they aren't as susceptible to it as the older ones. So your best bet is to buy a new one and for that you're going to have to take you chances on ebay more likely than not.I had this same problem as well btw. My first controller's analog went loose on me back when the N64 was still being sold so I was able to get a new controller easily back then (although I think the stick on that one is starting to die now as well). And since the gamecube controllers suffered from the same defect I had to replace two of those as well.
It's a very, very easy fix. Buy one of these, pop open your controller, unplug the old one, plug this one in, and screw it all back together.
I can recommend the ebay replacements.I bought one myself about 3 weeks ago, it took about 10 mins to fit ( 6 of those unscrewing the controller ) and my controller works like a dream again.Easy to fix and makes your games playable again.

wow...most of those are more expensive than another controller on ebay
There is a stainless steel replacement thumbstick on the net somewhere. I purchased 2 of them to retrofit my n64 controllers a year or so ago. They come with a stainless steel ring that goes around the stick movement area which fixes the problems with the stick and the ring rubbing together and producing the plastic dust crap. They also had a stainless steel trigger button which i neglected to purchase and can no longer find.
No can do, sorry. My guess is you may try and find a compatible controller if not an original one.
wrong the gc doesnt suffer from this , and ya go buy a replacment stick off ebay or new controller which ever you prefer me i was able to take a stick off an old controller that didnt work , and the stick worked lol, its easy open it up, unscrew the 3 white or silver screws not the small black one on the stick that takes it all off, after you do the 8 screws i believe on the controller it self get the 3 silver ones , then unplug the thing take a new one or a stick off a controller that doesnt work for other reasons eg chewed cord etc , if the sticks in better condition do that, then when your really ready get a new controller that way yoiu have 2 i got 6 was about to go to 5 but hanks for the extra broken conrollers i had lol ,
